My Life Philosophy – my raison d’être

ITHINK life is a pretty simple affair, even though lots of people tend to make it unnecessarily complex, so much so to the point of pointless crises every now and then... And it becomes even worse when these sort of realities hit at you when you are young, when you tend to believe what people tell you, and that is dangerous.

BUT as I get older, I understand that I am never as good or as bad as they say I am. Growing up, I have come to understand that there is nothing to fear or worry about in life – everything is meant to be understood. Once you understand this, then winning the rest of life's challenges will be as easy as blowing a whistle.

AND we humans love winning at life's games and challenges because that is what gives meaning to us in life. You cannot be happy nor have positive self-esteem by constantly losing. As Aristotle puts it, "Man is a goal seeking animal. His life only has meaning if he is reaching out and striving for his goals."  That is why I like to set goals and work hard to win more than I lose, for winning restores a man's sense of self-worth and relevance in life.

AND to win, I simply take whatever I have, wherever I am, and get the most out of it. I consistently do common things uncommonly well and all the time I keep remembering that winners look for ways to win while losers look for excuses for losing!

THAT is what brings success. And success should not be taken to mean the same thing as monetary accumulations. Success is to laugh often and much, to chant the beauty of the good rather than waste oneself in rejections or barking against the bad. Success is to win the goodwill of the most ordinary people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty and delight in nature; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. This is Auwal Gene's raison d’être!
